Update on previous items

Karl presented an updated training outline. See training document (PDF). Karl asked that the Board review the materials and return comments in the coming week. We'll circulate an update for final review. Karl will present the final training document at the February meeting with the goal of offering a training session on or about the week of February 15.

Additional office space will be available for us on January 19. A team of Project members will meet at the office to set up the new space.

Meg provided a menu that we can provide to our families to help them and us identify food requirements and any special requests or needs. The menu is available here on our web site.

New items

Compassion Capital Fund

Karl presented information about the Institute for Non-Profit Development at MWCC. The Institute presented an overview of a Compassion Capital Fund grant. The grant is available to non-profit organizations serving the northern Worcester County area. Five area organizations will share a total grant of $90,000. (Grants are typically divided equally, so each organization would receive $18,000.) Grants are awarded in March and all funds must be spent by the end of September (the end of the federal fiscal year).

The grant money is specifically for organizational development with an emphasis on sustainabiity. As a result, we could not, for example, purchase food with the grant monies, but we could purchase a refrigerator and freezer to allow us to store perishable foods.

In addition, the grant includes 150 hours of work from a paid intern. The intern would be available until May (the end of the semester).

Proposals are due on February 19. Karl recommended that, if we were to pursue the grant, we would have to start work on the proposal this week. Otherwise, we may want to use this information as a chance to think about how Joseph's Project could develop future grant proposals.
