Holden's Help At H.O.M.E. (Holden Outreach Managing Emergencies) held a resource fair on Saturday, March 20. Community service groups provided information about each organizations goals and resources.
In addition to renewing contacts with the Wachusett Food Pantry, the fair gave us a chance to meet with representatives from Elder Services, the Holden Senior Center, public safety, and light departments.
Of note was a conversation with representatives from the senior center regarding delivery of prepared or reheatable meals to individuals who cannot or should not be cooking meals from scratch. This led to a Board discussion about providing such services. The Board agreed that we would contact the service agency to learn more about specific requirements and to try to provide such services for one individual at the outset.
Action item: Karl to contact Senior Center to let them know that Joseph's Project would like to help. Lynn will be the direct contact for deliveries to the individual.
Karl to contact Hearts for Heat to explore possibilities of collaboration.A basic business membership costs $35/year. Special business account benefits include earlier shopping hours (Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.), Click and pull, allowing us to place orders on the web and have the orders ready for pickup on the next business day, and up to three additonal cards for the organization. Credit cards and other purchasing options are also available.
The Board approved a motion to allow Karl to open a business account with Sam's Club in Worcester.
Mike will talk with Steve regarding on-going shopping needs.
Lynn noted that some older recipients are on sodium-restricted diets and often could not use the soups and other products that we deliver. We will include more low-sodium products in our shopping and deliveries.
Jim Cahn will present the letter to the Rotary's budget meeting on March 30.
The Board will also pursue other options to obtain a donated freezer or funds for purchase of a new or used unit.
Rich reported that the Holden postmaster will allow us to use the water and parking lot at the post office for a car wash this spring.
